Arneis

Arneis is a variety which exhibits characteristics of the vintage's weather more than other varieties.

Catherine Vale's first Arneis, our "Little Rascal", is a very light straw colour with some green hues. It shows lifted apple and pear with grapefruit and crushed herbs on the nose. The Arneis's well structured acidity with flavours of almond biscotti and hazelnut lead to a zesty citrus finish.

Arneis is a white grape variety, originating in the Piedmont Region of north-west Italy. It is being grown widely in Australia now. Our 2010 Arneis is Named after our grandson Timo Claeys Lawson who lives in Duisburg Germany.

Winewriter John Lewis writes “ It is green-tinted lemon in the glass and has green apple and basil scents. Crisp, zesty lime juice flavour shows on the front of the palate and mineral, almond and sherbet characters chime in on the middle palate, while steely acid features at the finish.”

John has also listed it among the Hunter’s top 20 wines in 2010 as well as naming it Best Hunter Alternative Variety and a rating of 4 1/2 glasses.
